~ . * . ~

You're heart is not open so I must go
The spell has been broken... I loved you so

[Wufei slips quietly out of the safe house, pulling the door silently shut behind him. He moves quickly to his motorcycle, climbing onto it and looking back wistfully at the house. There is sadness in his eyes just before he flips the visor on his helmet down and guns the cycle to life. As he tears off into the night, the door flies open and another figure dashes out of the house just in time to see him vanish into the night. The boy sinks to the ground, lowers his head, and weeps for what he's just lost.]

Freedom comes when you learn to let go
Creation comes when you learn to say no

[Duo walks slowly down the streets, casting a sidelong glance at Heero. The other boy doesn't seem to be paying attention to anything. With a sigh, the braided teen turns his gaze towards a store window and freezes as he catches sight of Wufei's reflection. He looks back towards the street, but by the time he's turned around, the Chinese boy is gone.]

You were my lesson I had to learn
I was your fortress you had to burn

[Wufei moves quietly through the crowd, praying that Heero didn't catch sight of him just now. The expression on his face is a mixture of longing and sadness.]

Pain is the warning that something's wrong

[Memory flash to an argument with Heero just hours before he walked out of the safe house for the final time. The boys shout at each other, then Heero strikes out at Wufei in anger. He freezes and drops his fists as he realizes what he's done, taking a step towards his lover. Wufei backs away, a distant look in his eyes; then turns on his heel and runs out of the room, blinded by his tears.]

I pray to God that it won't be long
I wanna go higher

[He shakes his head and with a wistful smile begins to sing softly; the strange thing is, no one seems to notice:]

There's nothing left to try
There's no place left to hide
There's no greater power than the power of good-bye

[Duo remains silent, watching as Relena and Quatre try to draw Heero out of his shell. The braided youth shakes his head with a sad smile and walks out of the room in order to search for Wufei.]

Your heart is not open so I must go
The spell has been broken... I loved you so

[Duo looks up to find himself outside of an abandoned building. He can hear the voices and music coming from within, but no one else on the street takes notice. With another sad smile, he pushes open the door and walks in.]

You were my lesson I had to learn
I was your fortress

[The building appears to be well lit, with people bustling around and talking quietly amongst themselves. For the first time, people take notice of Duo and greet him with smiles and hellos. The braided boy's gaze is drawn to the lithe figure on stage, eyes closed as he sings softly:]

There's nothing left to lose
There's no more heart to bruise
There's no greater power than the power of good-bye

[Duo smiles softly and nods his head in understanding, as do several members of the audience. The braided teen moves towards the stage and slips around the curtain, deciding to wait for his friend backstage.]

Learn to say good-bye
I yearn to say good-bye

[Wufei walks backstage, offering Duo a small sad smile. The braided teen opens his arms in invitation; after a moment's hesitation the Chinese boy slips into the comforting embrace and rests his head on the other teen's shoulder, sighing.]

There's nothing left to try
There's no more places to hide
There's no greater power than the power of good-bye

[Heero stares blankly out the window. Relena places a gentle hand on his arm, trying to get him to talk to her, then turns to Quatre and sadly shakes her head. The blond teen sighs and leaves, followed by the girl. Heero doesn't seem to notice this, but he rests his head against the window and whispers "Good-bye, Wufei" into the night. A lone tear makes its way down his face.]

There's nothing left to lose
There's no more heart to bruise
There's no greater power than the power of good-bye

[From outside the house, Duo and Wufei look up towards the window. Wufei reaches out as if he wants to touch the boy suffering inside, then sighs softly and drops his hand. Heero can't see him; no one can anymore... except for those like him. Duo places a gentle hand on his arm and offers him a sad smile.]

Duo:
//We have to go now, Wufei.//

[The Chinese boy sighs and turns sad eyes to his friend.]

Wufei:
//I know. It's just... I never got to tell him... that I loved him.//

Duo:
//He knows, Wu-chan. Trust me, he knows.//

[With another sad smile, Wufei turns away from the window and takes Duo's outstretched hand. He looks back up one final time and waves wistfully.]

Wufei:
//Good-bye, Heero. I'll always love you.// [The figures of the two boys brighten to a blinding white for a moment, then vanish as if they'd never even been there. And up in his room, Heero mourns the loss of both his best friend and one true love.]
